It can spark ideas that add some texture to the adventure. Is there a backstory to how that creature ended up with that magic item? Is the monster using the item, and what are the implications of that? Does the existence of that item in this scenario chance the balance of power, story-wise? Chance can create opportunity… or the gamemaster can simply throw out results that don’t make sense.
