Something I’ve said many times over the past few months is that, as a professional writer, if I have a choice between writing something I’ll get paid for and writing a blog post for free, I’ll pick getting paid every time. There is a direct correlation between the amount of paid work I have and the frequency of blog posts you see. Obviously, business has been good.
Yesterday I posted that if you want to see my roleplaying game work, check out the Asparagus Jumpsuit site. That begs the question of what’s going to go here. To the relief of many, let me say that the topics of religion and politics are off the table; they shan’t be mentioned here. I will continue to live my faith and hopefully that will come through here, but it will not be overt. What I would like to continue writing about are “lifestyle issues” — cooking, productivity, art, literature, film, and related things that I am passionate about. There will still be announcements about various projects that I and my wife Katie are working on, but hopefully that won’t comprise the bulk of the content.
The look of the site is going to become far more streamlined as well. It will look less like a magazine, and more like some guy’s blog. Because at the end of the day, all this is, is some guy’s blog. That makes me more, not less, grateful that you read it.
As a long time follower of Uncle Bear, (you the guy) since 98, I am not a RPG guy, but someone who returns for your actual guy blogging take on things, be it tech stuff, politics, or life, I welcome a return to actual life blog content. I understand the need to make a living totally. But I must admit I do miss stuff about how the guy inside the Uncle Bear suit looks at life!
Because the RPG side is actually a business now, the split makes perfect sense. I will give me the opportunity to write about other things. The biggest reason for going RPG-heavy a few years ago was joining the RPG Bloggers Network, and while I don’t regret my affiliation with that group I do regret the changes to the blog that stemmed from it.
