Do Some Culture Discourage Empathy?

In this episode, Katie and Berin talk about empathy. They discuss the way culture can promote or discourage having compassion for other people. Thoughts are shared about how a lack of empathy is sometimes a failure of critical thinking, by not understanding how helping others is beneficial to one’s self. Also, a brief interlude about elephants.

(After finding and watching the elephant video again I realize that a lot of what I said in the podcast is completely wrong. They aren’t wild and they human wasn’t a stranger. But it’s still an awesome video that demonstrates that elephants have more empathy than some humans. -b.)
