Grim Energy and Resolute Courage

At this point I think the only people left on Twitter are trolls, people who refuse to admit that the trolls have won, and masochists. And bots, maybe, but I think they count as manifestations of the first two. A link to this post will be sent to Twitter automatically, which could count as a bot and would fall under the second category of denial, because it presumes there are people left alive who will actually see and follow the link back here. Then again, it’s 2018 and I’m still writing a blog, so what do I know. Hell, I still write on the presumption that there are people out there who still read, so take all of the above provisionally.

Hi, it’s Monday again! Well, for normal people. It’s my Wednesday, since I work through the weekends. Isn’t that a weird concept? We reassign the actual days of the week to conform to the notion of a five-day work week. I’ve heard a lot of people over the years, who work a four-day week, refer to Thursday as “my Friday”. It’s kind of like how Americans are the only people who use time as a measure of distance. How far away is this place? About two hours. How far is it to your office? Ten minutes. Is it any wonder that the United States hasn’t adopted the metric system? We don’t even measure things in the units we’re supposed to be using. Friday is Wednesday and we’re measuring miles on a clock, get out of here with your simple and consistent base-ten nonsense!

There was a documentary being shot in our living room yesterday. Not by me. Not about me. I don’t know if I can say more than that. I’m not even sure I was supposed to tell you that much. We live in interesting times.

Issue 3 of HUBRIS: The Journal of Cultural Horror should be available on Amazon by the time you see this. Adventure Theory should be officially certified as a Silver Best Seller on DriveThruRPG, and Party Theory should be a Copper Best Seller. We dropped a new episode of the Proof of Life podcast yesterday. Barring unforeseen complications, the first book in the Foragers Guild series-within-a-series, Class Theory: Fighter should be out at the end of next week.

That’s my week. What are your plans?

“It is only through labor and painful effort, by grim energy and resolute courage, that we move on to better things.”

  1. Now that I am getting my head out of the pile of to-be-assembled furniture, I need to actually subscribe and catch up on HUBRIS, because there are out there still people who read, and actually even engage in conversation, and even on – gasp! – blogs with – horror of authoritarian horrors! – moderated comments.

My SO is a professor in a Norwegian university college. He works some of the weekdays in the office when he has lectures, or meetings, or needs to use the university library, and some days in the library downstairs at home. And when a week goes sideways, as they sometimes just do, he reassigns a day off to random weekday, and works one of the ‘weekend’ days, provided the ‘weekday’ isn’t a work-in-office day for him. It reduces stress and avoids the arbitrary problem of ‘we need to get errand Y done but office X is closed on a weekend’ (and here a lot of things are).
