April 10 2020: We’re going to hit 100,000 deaths worldwide today. U.S. Attorney General William Barr called the social distancing measures “draconian” as experts say they’re flatting the curve. On the same day, the CDC traced the outbreak in Chicago to two gatherings, a birthday party and a funeral. And there are worries that Easter could spark a rise in cases as people flock to churches and family gatherings.
The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation is predicting that Easter will be the peak day for coronavirus deaths in the United States, with new cases dropping to zero by mid-June. I certainly hope that they’re correct. There’s no assuaging my skepticism, though, when people are getting arrested for holding gatherings in violation of stay at home orders, licking things in stores, and Donald Trump’s televised daily pep rallies.
Stupidity and selfishness are going to kill us all.

Meanwhile, because the American health care system is run on a for-profit basis, hospitals are getting ready to cut staff to save money. Always remember and never forget, corporations exist to generate profits for their shareholders. For medical corporations, providing health care is how they do that. It’s not, inherently, their primary purpose.
