May 14 2020: I Get More Views When I Complain

May 14 2020: As I have backed away from the all-pandemic, all the time blog format my numbers have dropped. While I’m not being aggressively positive, I am trying to be open and honest about how I’m handling this. This blog is a personal journal that I’m sharing. Still, I get more views when I complain about things.

Ironically, I also get more complaints. People come out of the woodwork to tell me how negative I’m being. It’s a really twisted feedback loop. I take it as validation that our current society, such as it is, only wants to wallow in misery. Some folks seek out reasons to tell you that you’re wrong.

More Views When I Complain

Fortunately I’m not in this for the views. I mean, I enjoy engagement. There are reasons I’m doing this here, and not in a journal. I strive for connection. What I don’t want is for that connection to be based on a negative feedback loop. Let’s all complain together! It’s why I’m on a strict news and social media diet.

No matter what happens, no matter how badly I think things are going to turn out in the end, I want to be able to enjoy the moments that I have to the fullest extent that I can. I’m not going to allow anyone to rob me of that.

  • If you get anything out of these blog posts, consider buying me a coffee. You can also purchase one of my books or zines from Gumroad or DriveThruRPG.
  • I check all email and Twitter DMs, personal and professional, three times once a day. I respond  as time allows; if it requires some thought or research on my part, it will take me longer.
  • I am actively avoiding news and social media to focus on writing. Please take your information from reliable sources and certified experts, not the Mad Carrot and its puerile cultists.
  • Today is Day 59 in isolation.
